Suyeonsanbang

Suyeonsanbang is Seoul's first traditional hanok tea house, housed in the former residence of renowned Korean author Lee Tae-jun. Nestled on the slopes of Bukaksan Mountain in the serene Seongbuk-dong neighborhood, this historic hanok offers a peaceful retreat where literary history meets traditional Korean tea culture.

The most coveted seat is in the outer room of the sarangbang (men's quarters), where glass panels replace traditional hanji paper, offering unobstructed views of the tranquil courtyard and the Bukaksan Mountain beyond. The cafe serves traditional Korean teas including jujube tea, pine needle tea, lemon ginger tea, omija tea, and chrysanthemum gugija tea, alongside their signature sweet pumpkin bingsu (shaved ice).

This hanok served as a literary salon during the Japanese colonial period, where famous writers like Jeong Ji-yong, Yi Sang, and Kim Yu-jeong gathered to discuss literature and life. The cultural value of this historic space has been recognized with its designation as a Seoul City Folk Cultural Property.
