Beyond shopping, Namdaemun is famous for its Galchi-jorim Alley (갈치조림골목), where you can enjoy spicy braised hairtail fish and other hearty Korean dishes. The market's late-night and early-morning hours make it a unique 24-hour shopping and dining destination in the heart of Seoul.

Location

21 Namdaemunsijang 4-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul (10-minute walk from Hoehyeon Station Exit 5, Line 4, or City Hall Station Exit 5, Lines 1 & 2)

Many wholesale shops open at dawn (around 4am) and close by mid-afternoon, while food stalls and some retail shops stay open late. The Galchi-jorim Alley is busiest during lunch and dinner hours. Bring cash as many vendors don't accept cards. Bargaining is common, especially for bulk purchases.
