BTS THE CITY ARIRANG Seoul 2026: Everything Still Happening Through April

When BTS performed their comeback concert at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21, an estimated 260,000 people filled the streets — and another 190 countries watched the Netflix global stream. For one night, the historic square at the heart of Seoul became the most-watched stage on the planet.

But that concert was the opening act of something much larger.

BTS THE CITY ARIRANG SEOUL — the citywide K-pop festival surrounding the comeback — runs until April 19, 2026. Across five neighborhoods and multiple Seoul landmarks, 15+ experiences are currently active or opening in the coming weeks. If you're in Seoul right now, or arriving before mid-April, the city has been rewired for this moment.

This is what's still running, what opens next, and how to experience it all.

What Is BTS THE CITY ARIRANG SEOUL?

"BTS THE CITY" is an urban festival concept HYBE developed in partnership with city governments — it transforms major metropolitan areas into immersive K-pop experience zones during BTS comebacks or tours.

The Seoul edition, organized in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and HYBE, spans March 20 to April 19, 2026. It's built around the release of BTS's fifth studio album ARIRANG — their first full group comeback after four years of military service.

The festival is designed so you don't need concert tickets to participate. While the Gwanghwamun concert required registration, all other THE CITY SEOUL experiences are either free, low-cost, or separately ticketable.

Active Right Now: What You Can Experience This Week

Cheonggyecheon Stream Light Walk (Until April 12)

Every evening from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Cheonggyecheon Stream transforms into a themed walking experience along a 500-meter stretch between Ogansugyo Bridge and Beodeuldari Bridge.

The installation features special lighting displays projected onto the stream's surroundings, accompanied by a searchlight show synchronized to ARIRANG album tracks. It's one of Seoul's most atmospheric spring evening experiences — the stream itself reflects the lights against the dark water, and the surrounding urban canyon amplifies the sound.

Getting there: Cheonggye Stream is accessible from Gwanghwamun (10-min walk), City Hall, or Dongdaemun Design Plaza. The themed section starts near Gwanghwamun and runs east. No tickets required.

DDP Media Façade Show (Until April 12)

Every 30 minutes from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) — Zaha Hadid's parametric masterpiece — becomes a projection canvas for BTS visual content.

Each show runs 3 minutes. The content changes across the event period, with sequences from the ARIRANG album's visual universe and Seoul landmark imagery. DDP's curving exterior is one of Seoul's best projection surfaces — the geometry creates a sense of depth and movement that flat facades can't replicate.

DDP is already one of Seoul's most photographed night destinations. During the festival, it draws larger crowds, so plan for 10-15 minutes of wait time for a clear viewing position.

Getting there: Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station (Lines 2, 4, 5), Exit 1.

BTS City Tour Bus (Until April 19)

The BTS THE CITY SEOUL City Tour Bus is the most comprehensive way to navigate the festival. Operating from March 22 through April 19, the bus covers Gwanghwamun, Namsan Mountain, DDP, and other key landmarks connected to the THE CITY experience.

Two packages are available:

Day Package (weekdays only): Covers the downtown palace corridor, Namsan area, and major K-pop landmarks. Includes a welcome gift and audio guide.

Night Package (once daily): The evening route focuses on illuminated landmarks and THE CITY SEOUL experience zones. Particularly effective during the festival period when DDP and Cheonggyecheon are lit with BTS installations.

Departures are from in front of the Gwanghwamun ticket office. Booking through the official Seoul City Tour Bus channels — plan ahead, as the night package fills quickly.

K-pop Walking Tours (3 Courses, Until April 12)

Three distinct walking routes connect K-pop history and culture across Seoul's core neighborhoods. The routes are designed for independent exploration — you receive a map and guide, then walk at your own pace.

The courses cover areas including Gwanghwamun and the Sejong-daero corridor, Insadong and Jongno-gu, and the Hongdae area. Each route takes approximately 2-3 hours and includes markers at significant K-pop cultural sites.

These tours run daily through April 12. Check English availability at the Seoul Regional Tourism Center or through THE CITY SEOUL's official channels.

Opening April 6: The Cherry Blossom Window

The second phase of THE CITY SEOUL begins on April 6, timed precisely with Seoul's cherry blossom peak forecast (April 7-12, 2026). Two new experiences open:

Arirang Light Walk — Cheonggyecheon (April 6-19)

Replacing the earlier Cheonggyecheon event, the Arirang Light Walk is a 500-meter permanent light installation along Cheonggyecheon that runs from April 6 through April 19. Operating hours extend beyond the earlier event's 8-9 PM window.

This coincides exactly with peak cherry blossom season. Spending an April evening along Cheonggyecheon — with sakura petals in the air and ARIRANG light installations reflecting in the water — is a genuinely rare Seoul moment.

DDP Army Madang Exhibition (April 6-12)

A dedicated fan exhibition space at DDP opens for one week, April 6-12. Content includes production materials from the Gwanghwamun concert, archive items, and interactive installations. This is the only THE CITY SEOUL experience that requires a separate ticket.

The April 6-12 window is worth specifically planning around — you get the exhibition, peak cherry blossoms citywide, and the Arirang Light Walk all simultaneously.

HYBE Insight: The Museum Experience

HYBE Insight in Yongsan-gu is HYBE's permanent museum and exhibition space, currently featuring a special ARIRANG exhibition. This includes production design from the 360-degree Gwanghwamun stage, artist archive materials, and rotating content from the comeback.

HYBE Insight isn't a BTS-only museum — it covers HYBE's full artist roster across interactive displays and curated zones. The ARIRANG exhibition is a limited addition to the permanent collection.

Critical note: HYBE Insight requires advance reservation via Weverse. During the comeback period, slots book out days in advance. Reserve as soon as you know your schedule — walk-in access is not available.

Address: HYBE Corporation, Yongsan-gu, Seoul (near Yongsan Station, Line 1/Jungang Line)

Planning Your THE CITY SEOUL Experience

The Evening Route (Best Single-Night Strategy)

7:00 PM — Arrive at Gwanghwamun for the atmosphere of the square and surrounding area. The media façades at Atelier Gwanghwa and KT Square still display THE CITY SEOUL content during evening hours.

8:00 PM — Walk east to Cheonggyecheon Stream (10-15 min from Gwanghwamun). The 8-9 PM Light Walk runs until April 12; from April 6 onward, the Arirang Light Walk runs on extended hours.

9:00 PM — Take the subway to Dongdaemun (Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, Line 4). Arrive for the 9:30 PM or 10:00 PM DDP media façade show.

This route connects three of THE CITY SEOUL's flagship experiences in approximately 3 hours.

Combining with Cherry Blossom Season

The April 7-12 window is the sweet spot: peak cherry blossoms city-wide overlap perfectly with the Arirang Light Walk and DDP Army Madang exhibition. International visitors who can schedule Seoul visits for this window get a rare convergence of seasonal and cultural events.

Cherry blossom hotspots accessible from THE CITY SEOUL experience zones:

  • Cheonggyecheon Stream: Cherry blossoms along the elevated road areas
  • Gwanghwamun: Nearby Gyeongbokgung Palace has limited cherry blossoms, but the neighborhood atmosphere is charged during both events
  • DDP/Dongdaemun: Cheonggyecheon continues east; Seoul Forest is 20 minutes by subway (cherry blossoms peak here too)

For the full spring cherry blossom calendar, see the Seoul Spring Festivals & Events 2026 guide.

Practical Tips

Getting around: The subway is the only sensible option during THE CITY SEOUL — Gwanghwamun Station (Line 5) and Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station (Lines 2, 4, 5) are the key hubs. Traffic in these areas is congested throughout the event period.

Payments: Seoul's subway system, major merchants, and most experience venues fully support Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. International credit cards work widely without setup.

What to expect crowd-wise: Weeknights from Sunday to Thursday are significantly less crowded than Friday and Saturday at DDP and Cheonggyecheon. The DDP evening shows are most atmospheric with moderate crowds — enough energy without obscured sightlines.

Language: Most THE CITY SEOUL signage is multilingual (Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese). The City Tour Bus audio guide includes English.

Why This Matters

BTS THE CITY ARIRANG represents something that doesn't happen often: a K-pop comeback engineered as a citywide tourism activation, with the full cooperation of city government and infrastructure. The 260,000 people who came to Gwanghwamun for the concert were just the visible peak. The broader festival is designed to distribute visitors across the city and extend the cultural moment across weeks, not hours.

For international visitors in Seoul right now, or arriving before April 19, THE CITY ARIRANG is the defining context for this particular spring. Cherry blossoms, the Hangang spring festival (from April 10), and THE CITY SEOUL are all converging in the same weeks. Seoul in April 2026 is worth experiencing.
